In a world of supersize, super fries, and super thighs, it is no wonder that gluttony is an international sin. While the saying is true that humans need to eat to survive, more often than not, we confuse the need for survival with indulgence. Thus, the devilish duo of gluttony and greed are born. Whether or not you sheepishly silence or proudly proclaim the impact the cunning duet has on your appetite and wallet, the next few items will put your will power to the test. To all the greedy gluttons out there, the following lowest to highest priced list shows a compilation of the world’s five most exorbitant golden eats:
5. Gold Leaf Laced Semifreddo—$50
This dessert is as pretty as the name makes it out to be. The $50 dessert focuses on a chilled, crumbled biscuit base mousse accented with a gold lead. Also in the dish are Louis XVI-soaked prunes and vanilla truffle foam. The delicate dish is served with a glass of orange-scented Cristal.

3. Sultan’s Golden Cake—$1,000
Ciragan Palace Kempinski Hotel, located in Istanbul, has a dessert fit for a king. The thousand dollar cake is prepared with apricot, figs, pears, quince (a hard yellow fruit that resembles an apple and pear taste blend) and French Polynesia’s vanilla bean that have been soaked in a Jamaican Rum for two years. The top of the Sultan’s Golden Cake is coated with 24 karat gold leaves, black truffles, and caramel. The estimated preparation time for the cake is three days.

2. Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence—$14,500
The “Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence,” sounds more like an extreme obstacle course instead of a dessert. With an Italian gold leaf cassata cake flavored with Irish cream, a mango and pomegranate compote mixture and champagne sabayon enlighten, the techniques involved in the cake seem complex enough. However, the dessert goes one step further by adding the logo of the Sri Lankan resort hotel. A chocolate sculpture of a fisherman clinging to a stilt with an 80 carat aquamarine gemstone balanced underneath is the final detail of the $14,500 treat.

1. Serendipity 3 Frrrozen Haute Chocolate—$25,000
The restaurant Serendipity 3 may sound familiar to people who regularly watch the Food Network. After a special on the restaurant’s $1000 Grand Opulence Sundae, foodies with big stomachs and salaries always knew where to go for a decadent dessert. However, a newer invention has cast a sweet shadow over the sundae. Serendipity 3 collaborated with jeweler company, Euphoria New York, to create the $25,000 Frrrozen Haute Chocolate. The dessert won owner, Stephen Bruce, a Guinness world record for the most expensive dessert. Served in a goblet laced with edible gold leaves, the dessert is composed of 28 international cocoas, an infusion of five grams of edible 23 karat gold, whipped cream, and a side dish of La Madeline au Truffle that sells for $2,600 a pound. Just in case the picture you uploaded to Facebook was not proof enough, the gold spoon ladled with white and chocolate-colored diamonds, along with the carat’s worth of diamonds encrusted in the 18 karat gold bracelet can be taken home as a souvenir of your “gilty” pleasure.
