5 Reasons To Love Atlanta

Atlanta SkylineAtlanta is well-known across the world as the capital city of Georgia. Even if you’ve never been to the city, the mere mention of its name brings to mind polite society and beautiful, historic scenery. If you’ll be taking a vacation this year and have never been to the south, Atlanta is a perfect choice. Here are five reasons that you’ll fall in love with Atlanta:

1. Parks

Atlanta is a city that loves its green space and that fact is evident when looking at its variety of city parks. Piedmont Park is one of the most expansive city parks in America, covering 185 acres of land. If you’ll be in Atlanta in mid-July, make sure you head to the park for its most popular event: Bark in the Park. On July 23, animal lovers will converge upon the park to listen to the music of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The concert is free to the public and is an absolutely wonderful way to spend an evening.

2. Museums

The people of Atlanta love their culture! Though there are several museums in the city to choose from, none are as popular as the High Museum of Art. Recently expanded, the museum is comprised of more than three buildings, a plaza and a restaurant. The new Italian architecture blends so seamlessly with the original that you’ll find it difficult to discern where the original building ends and the new begins. Whether you’re interested in historic exhibits or modern photography, you’ll find displays that will hold your interest for hours.

The city is full of quaint shops and upscale boutiques, but there is no shopping center more popular than Atlantic Station. The multi-block shopping arena houses popular chain stores as well as local shopkeepers under the same roof. You’ll find IKEA, Dillard’s, Journeys and numerous locally owned and run boutiques in the mega-mall. Visitors can easily spend an entire weekend at the mall, over-nighting in TWELVE Atlantic Station and dining at any number of amazing eateries: Rosa Mexicano, Dolce Enoteca e Ristorante and Ten Pin Alley, just to name a few.

4. Educational Opportunities

Parents traveling with children love the number of educational opportunities to be found in the city. One of the favorites is, by far, the Georgia Aquarium. Because the aquarium is so large, locals have nicknamed it the “eighth ocean of the world.” As soon as you walk through the doors, you’ll find fish swimming over your head, leading you to some of the best marine exhibits in the world. Take your children through the various galleries and let them delight in seals, sawfish, shrimp, urchins, whale sharks and groupers. Touch tanks let visitors get up close and personal with a variety of sea life and delight hundreds of visitors each day.

You’d expect that a city with so much happening would offer great downtown accommodations! Atlanta will not disappoint you! The Embassy Suites is situated right near the aquarium and is perfect for families. Boutique hotels are perfect for the hip 20- and 30-something crowds and include The Glenn Hotel and TWELVE. Staying in the heart of downtown will put you smack in the middle of all of the action. No matter which hotel you choose in Atlanta proper, you’ll be welcomed with open arms and treated like a member of the family.
