5 Ways Nutritional Supplements Can Boost Health

Vitamin PackagingTurn on the television or radio and you may be instantly bombarded by infomercials touting the latest and greatest nutritional supplements. Listen to the entire commercial and you’ll eventually here the disclaimer that these supplements have not been evaluated by the FDA. But what does that mean?

In a nutshell, nutritional supplements are not considered “medications” and do not have to pass the same rigorous testing. Any person in any corner of the world can put bee pollen, for example, in an easy-to-swallow capsule and tell consumers that it will make them look ten years younger, improve their mental acuity and give them the energy of a five year old child.

If this is true, how do you know that these supplements are safe? Unfortunately, you don’t. While most of these supplements are, indeed, safe, many do not perform the miracles that their hawkers claim. There are, however, supplements that have been studied and have proven to be effective. So effective, in fact, that medical professionals and nutritionists suggest that adults take them on a regular basis.

1. Vitamin B:

There are three types of B Vitamins that are beneficial: 12, 6 and biotin. Vitamin B12 can enhance memory and strengthen the immune system. Vitamin B6 is helpful for those suffering from a depressed mood and biotin, taken regularly, can strengthen hair and nails.

People with dry skin also find that taking an omega 3 supplement helps their skin retain more of its moisture.

4. Coenzyme Q10

You’ll find this supplement labeled as CO Q10 and, you’ll be happy to know, it has been widely studied.
