6 apps that simplify household management

If you find that your work life is more organized than your home life, you’re not alone. You may spend the time and money to keep up with the latest software and mobile apps for work productivity without even thinking about how technology can help you get organized at home. But many apps on the market can make you as efficient in your personal life as you are in your professional life.

1. Digital Locker

It’s difficult to manage your household if you don’t know what’s in your house. But with Digital Locker, a free app available for Apple and Android platforms, you can keep track of your personal property, even when you’re away from home. You can photograph your belongings and organize them by room. When you’re out shopping and find a great rug on sale, you can quickly access a picture of your sofa to see if the rug will match. More importantly, if you ever need to file a claim on your homeowners or renters insurance, you have all the information you need at your fingertips.

2. My House UI

My House UI is the ultra-cool app that gives you control over your home regardless of your location. You can control your home’s lights, temperature, appliances, security system and more. Ensure the safety of your property and conserve energy by shutting off appliances that might have been left on during the day.

3. Accounts 2 Checkbook

This is one of a number of mobile home accounting apps available to keep track of all your accounts – checking, savings, credit cards and loans. Accounts 2 Checkbook is one of the most user-friendly financial management apps on the market today and allows you to quickly create charts that show where your money is going each month.

4. Grocery iQ

Grocery iQ allows you to keep track of all your grocery lists for different markets and stores. Based upon your history, the app will then build your “regular” list. With a little guidance from you, the app will provide your grocery list by aisle. Users can enter items by typing, speaking or barcode-scanning. The app also adds relevant coupons to your store loyalty card. Finally, you can share your the list with others – a handy feature if someone else is going to the store for you.

5. HomeRoutines

At $3.99, HomeRoutines is well worth the price. One of the few chore manager apps geared toward adults as opposed to children, it can streamline not only your housecleaning, but your email, too. Let it keep track of your recurring chores and tasks for you, and use it to remind you of important one-time tasks, too.

6. Epicurious

Epicurious has remained one of the best recipe-based apps available. It’s an incredibly helpful website and app to help you plan a multi-course meal and give you options for fixing a meal with the ingredients you already have on hand.

Unless you have a butler, maid or personal assistant, odds are you could use some help around the house. So put your smartphone to work – a few great apps can simplify your life and leave you more time to relax and enjoy being at home.
