Computer viruses are never something you should mess around with, so you want to get the best antivirus program as soon as possible. In 2011 there were a lot of good antivirus programs, but now that 2012 is around the viruses are nastier than ever before, so you need a great program to ensure your computer’s safety. Don’t worry, here are some of the best antivirus programs of 2012.

Norton AntiVirus 2012

When it comes to antivirus programs, most people instantly think of Norton, and for good reason, too. Norton has long been one of the best antivirus program distributors, and they are continuing this trend in 2012. Their newest edition has scored top marks in regards to removing malware, rootkits and scareware. According to tests, Norton was weakest with malware, removing 85%, but this is still a great figure.

AVG Anti-Virus Free 2012

AVG’s free antivirus program may just be the best of the year. Usually free programs are a little lacking when it comes to the raw power needed to remove viruses, but AVG has proven itself a top contender for the best spot. According to lab tests, AVG was able to remove 100% of all rootkits and scareware, just like Norton. However, it was also bale to remove 88% of malware, putting it just above Norton. If you don’t feel like paying for protection, then this is a great option.

Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus

Webroot is a trusted company when it comes to antivirus programs, and they have been able to supply a good amount of heavy-hitters in the past. In 2012, Webroot is definitely pushing its game to a new level with the SecureAnywhere Antivirus program. Most lab tests are showing that this is the best program for removing malware, with 94% accurate, and it also eradicates rootkits and scareware with 100% efficiency.

GFI VIPRE Antivirus 2012

GFI isn’t the most well-known software distributor, but they have made many powerful antivirus programs in the past. The 2012 season is showing them as a top pick with their strong and rugged new program. Like many of the others, it is adept at removing rootkits and scareware. In malware, it scores a good 91%, which puts it above many of the other competitors.

Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.5 Free Edition

Panda is a relative newcomer in terms of antivirus programs, but they have certainly made a good product despite their experience. The Panda program is receiving similar marks to GFI’s program, except this program is free. There is something odd, though. Panda also has a professional-grade program that is not free, but according to lab tests, it removes malware with 85% accurate while the free version is 91% accurate. This may be a fluke, but it is still important to take notice of.

Bitdefender Antivirus Plus

Bitdefender has made a new antivirus program that is ready to counter all the major online threats that are thrown at your computer everyday. This year is seeing people perform more social networking than ever before, which is causing people to be exposed to less than friendly hackers. Bitdefender has many features that help it protect you against these threats, so you can surf in peace.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012

This antivirus program is great at blocking and removing viruses, but it has been shown to be ahead of the pack with detection. According to many lab tests, the detection rate is 100%, with low figures pointing towards the high 90s. There is one problem with program, and it’s the price. It is $59.95, but this may actually be good for homes or small offices. The program automatically comes with three licenses, which actually makes it cheaper than many of its competitors.

Conclusion

Getting the best antivirus program for 2012 is extremely important. People are using the Internet more and more these days, and you need protection unless you want a rootkit or virus to shred your machine. While it can be hard to find the best program, as there are often conflicting reviews, this list represents the best that 2012 has to offer.

Just pick one up, try it out and you will see how well they can protect your computer. If you are worried about paying for a program, just get one of the free options.

Any great business owner knows that they need to stay a step ahead of the competition to survive. One of the easiest way to get a leg up, believe it or not, is with a show-stopping logo. A logo designed by a professional may run you a few hundred dollars but, in the long run, the return on that investment will be immeasurable. So, why buy a logo?

The very easy answer to that question is marketing. The right logo can be used on everything you can think of: from business cards and stationery to T-shirts and Frisbees. Any type of promotional item lends itself perfectly to a professional logo. Do you attend trade shows? Local festivals? If so, handing out promotional materials is a virtually standard marketing ploy.

The key, then, is having a logo designed by a professional well skilled in graphic design. You, of course, can purchase software and design a logo on your own, but what do you really know about graphics? Do know this: a poorly designed logo can have just as much a negative impact on your business as a great one can have a positive impact. Are you willing to chance it?

So, what steps should be taken to design a great logo?

1. Choose your designer: Interview several designers and ask for both references and portfolios. Choose a designer who has work that you are attracted to and meets your budget.

2. Familiarity with your business: Your designer should set up a meeting with you to get to know both you as a person and your business. He or she may ask about the products you sell, the services you render and your client demographics. He or she may also want to get a feel for where you see your business in the future. Don’t feel as though your designer is prying; by getting a feel for who you are and what your business is, they will have a launching point for creating your logo.

3. Brainstorming: You may or may not be asked to be involved in this process. Your involvement will be up to the designer and their creative process. Whether or not you are asked to participate, your designer will brainstorm several ideas until one strikes them as ‘right.’ From there, they will begin to tweak the design and get your feedback.

4. Color and design: Once your designer has come up with a rough idea of your logo’s design, they’ll begin to play with color, fonts and graphics. Don’t expect your designer to ask your favorite color! Colors have meanings and any designer worth his or her salt knows this. The colors chosen by the designer will center around the message they are trying to convey through your logo.

5. Unveiling: You may be given a choice of several designs or you may be given your final logo. Again, this is up to the designer. If you are asked to choose, pick the one that draws your eye immediately. Don’t over think it. Your logo should be instantly recognizable, if you don’t have to think about it, neither will your client base! If you are only given the final product, remember that you have paid for a professional to create it. If there is something that doesn’t strike you as absolutely perfect, discuss it with your designer. They may be able to explain their concept so that you understand the choices they have made.

If it is important to you to have a say throughout the design process, make this clear to any designers you interview. If you want to leave it all to the designer, be sure to mention this as well. Part of creating a fantastic logo is a having a great working relationship with your design team.

Custom logo designs can sometimes be very expensive. Author and marketing consultant, Avery Petersen, uses logomojo.com for all his small business marketing needs. Click here to find affordable options for your business.

It’s easy to start up a business, but sustaining and expanding the business is the true test of it. People who have grown in business and life have one thing in common. They are visionary and to climb the success ladder, you need to position yourself. Whether you’ve an online business or offline business, you need to make profit.

1. Select Your Niche Properly

This is actually the first approach to achieve greater success on the internet. Until your niche is properly selected, you’ll continue to make huge mistakes that drain money from your pocket. You need to carefully choose what you’re passionate about and then dedicate your life to pursuing it.

Your niche is that area where your expertise is obvious.

Even when you’re asleep, what goes on inside your head should be unique and crisp. Once your niche is well chosen, move on the step 2.

2. Write Down A Clear Business Goal

Every successful entrepreneur has a clear goal. If you don’t write it down, then you’re not serious about achieving it. Success begins with understanding, and action oriented steps. A goal guides your activities on a daily basis. Before spending your money, a goal should be in place so that you don’t spend it on worthless things.

A business that doesn’t have clearly written goals is bound to fail, now or in future. A person of wisdom does not joke with a pen and a writing pad – it’s your most cherished item as a businessperson.

3. Learn To Write Your Ad Copy

Copywriting is the highest skill every entrepreneur should leverage upon. It’s so important that you learn how to carve and create your own sellable copy. This is going to make the real difference between conversion rate and failure.

I’ve seen crappy products that are selling like hot cakes, just because the sales copy is superb. If no one reads your copy, you’re not going to make any money. It’s vital you start this process of mastering copywriting right away, using various free and paid resources. It’s going to help you grow your online business.

4. Start A Niche-Targeted Blog

Every corporate business needs a corporate blog. A blog was hitherto used as an online diary, where individuals share the daily activities, likes and dislikes with friends. But today, it’s quite different. To build up your credibility, improve your standard of business operations, a blog is what you need.

A corporate blog helps you to showcase your skills, and share your knowledge about a given subject and network with like minds. Without a blog, your business is nothing more than a hit-and-run project. Take a look at the multinational companies around you. They are all blogging.

You should focus on a given topic, to reduce the competition and dominate your niche. Savvy entrepreneurs have blogs in several niches, that are easy to dominate. While setting up my blog that shares free sittercity coupon codes and 6pm shoes coupons deals, I had to stand out from the severe competition when it comes to online shopping. Break down your niche and build a corporate blog on one.

5. Network With Other Entrepreneurs

This is quite obvious but equally important. A single collaboration with a popular marketer could change the tide in your business and life. For instance, an affiliate marketer knows the importance of having a huge list of super affiliates queuing up to promote his product.

You’ll experience massive sales and business growth when you cooperate with a savvy entrepreneur. Remember, it’s a win/win situation – so open up your eyes and look for networking deals around you. It pays great dividends.

6. Submit Guest Posts Continually

Guest posting is one core aspect of marketing and reaching out to fresh audience. We all know that for a business to grow, you need to promote it.

Before guest posting became popular, getting your products and services advertised could cost so much, and you had trouble making the time to write articles and submit them to directories. But today, all this has changed because of guest posting.

When you write a unique guest article and publish it on another blog, you’re increasing your web experience, gaining quality backlinks (do follow) and increasing your blog’s page rank. You also attract fresh blog readers and buyers. Guest posting also helps you to discover successful entrepreneurs whom you can network with for your next product launch.

There are even more benefits to writing quality articles that impact lives. But it boils down to who is doing it. So, get started if you want growth in your business.

7. Start Building Your Email List

Often, we hear the money is in the list and wonder if this is true. However simple it sounds, it is the truth. The money is actually in the list. But to make your list responsive, you need to build rapport and strong relationship with the email recipients. That means there should be honesty, transparency and giving from you.

The more fulfilled they are, the more receptive your subscribers will be to your product recommendations. Your success online depends on the number of responsive customers you’re able to reach out to at the click of the button. You can’t continue chasing the next traffic and prospects and wonder why you’re not growing.

Set your priorities correctly. Whatever activity you carry out on your business should be geared towards increasing your email list subscribers. I don’t think there is any worthy practice aside building an email list. That’s where your ultimate sales and growth is going to come from. Focus on your email list.

The above 7 steps is aimed at improving your business intelligence, positioning you for success and gives you the privilege to write your own paycheck. Take action today and meet me at the top!

Infographics have seen a huge surge in popularity over the last few years (particularly in the last 12 months), and it’s not especially surprising, considering their effectiveness when it comes to encouraging natural links.

Some infographics end up phenomenally popular, but this is often down to the platform it’s published on (or the brand releasing the infographic), rather than the quality of the design or information. So, rather than reproduce a list of the most popular infographics from the last couple of months, here’s some fantastic examples that you might not have come across:

QR codes aren’t particularly new in terms of their technology, but they have seen a boom in popularity in the last couple of years, due in no small part to the widespread usage of modern smartphones.

However, whilst many more people are becoming interested in getting a QR code for their website, social media account or business, many people don’t really know how they can use a QR code as a part of their normal promotional activities.

So to help you figure out how you can integrate QR codes into your marketing, here’s a handful of creative uses for your QR code:

1. Business Cards

You can place your QR code on your business cards, allowing people with smartphones to visit your website as soon as they get your card, rather than relying on them remembering when they’re at a computer. You could include your traditional contact information (phone number, email, etc) on one side, and your QR code on the other. Bear in mind your QR code doesn’t have to link to a corporate website, if you’re an individual you could link the QR code to your personal website, online CV or to one of your social media accounts.

2. Posters and Storefronts

If you own a shop, then your storefront is an excellent place for your QR codes. You can take advantage of the footfall outside the shop, instead of just the people who come inside. This could dramatically increase mobile traffic to your website and is an excellent branding tool. Just make sure your display is eye-catching and that the QR code is immediately visible and easy for people to scan.

3. Stickers

Stickers are great places to put QR codes, although this one is more suitable for a band or teaser campaign (considering placing stickers can be frowned upon in a lot of places, this isn’t suitable for a corporate business). Stickers allow you to place links to your website in numerous different places across a town, city or even country. This means you can take advantage of high footfall areas without needing to spend large sums on advertising.

4. Product Packaging

If your business produces a physical product for sale, then you should include your QR codes on the packaging artwork. These can be social media links or links to related pages on your website, or they could link to a discount page to further encourage your customers to shop with you (as well as recommending you to friends).

5. Car and Van Decoration

If you have a company vehicle that’s decorated with your company logo, address and phone number, then you should consider adding your QR code as well. If you think about how many people see your vehicle every day, then you can imagine the potential increase in your website visits via mobile traffic.

Guest post by John, who recently finished designing QR codes for Direct Sight. You can see one of the codes in action at the Direct Sight YouTube channel.

To say that any one year was one of particular technological advancement is hard to argue. Isn’t every year an inevitable advancement upon the previous? For that reason, it’s impossible to say that 2011 was the year that saw the most technological changes. Instead, 2011 was a technology game changer not so much because of particular technological breakthroughs that were achieved, but because of certain events that have occurred within the arena of technology itself. Big things happened this year that will be remembered for decades to come.

1. Cyber-Security is Seemingly Non-Existent

For a while there, it seemed like tech security was finally surpassing the efforts of those to beat it. But 2011 saw the network hacking of Sony, Visa, and even the FBI. Those doing most of the cyber crimes claim to be committing their misdeeds out of the desire to keep the public informed about how fragile security really is when you have a web connection. Either way, the fact that even the highest echelons of law enforcement can’t combat the determination of the modern day hacker is a wake up call.

2. The Domains Are Different

For the first time since the Internet became mainstream, web content creators will have the option to buy domains that exceed the infamous .com, .net, .org, .etc limitations. The Internet Corps for Assigned Names, or ICANN, has opened up the possibility for generic top-level domain registration for just about every possible word in existence. Love.com already taken? Then apply for the Love.love domain name. Starting in 2011, the browser box will never look the same again.

3. Steve Jobs is Gone

Tech geeks may never settle their differences regarding Steve Jobs, former two-time CEO of Apple Computer and the brain responsible for the company’s rise to the level of second most valued in the world. Some say he’s a hardware and software designer genius, others say he’s a narcissist with anger management issues. But one thing’s for certain, no one in the industry has ever been as right about the future as Jobs. His departure from Apple marks the end of an era of computer science innovation.

4. Google is Here to Stay

No one has ever doubted the life expectancy of Google, nor been surprised by their ability to think big. But the year 2011 saw the search engine giant go from being the benign dictator of all things searched to becoming a direct hand in the business of information and entertainment. First, it was the creation of their own social network Google+. Then they decided to enter the mobile phone manufacturing business by buying Motorola. Google isn’t just about the search; they mean business.

5. Social Media has Made its Mark

For years now, social media has been a novelty. 2011 saw the first time its been implemented as a means for social change. The Arab Spring was in-part reliant on the popularity of social networks throughout the Middle-East. While it turns out fears of sophisticated planning via social networks were false, the recent riots in the UK have turned government attention toward the power of social media. For the first time, the so-far allowed freedom of social networks has been put into question by the powers that be. It certainly won’t be the last time that happens.

No year goes by without big technological change, but the high-stakes drama of tech news during 2011 only comes around every once in awhile. Will we remember the iPad 2 and LG Android phone models that include 2D to 3D engines 20 years from now? Maybe. But we’re probably much more likely to remember 2011 as the year technology turned a corner onto a strange new street full of possibilities.

TOPIC You will want to choose a domain based on the topic of your web content. Simple and to the point words are best. Phrases are acceptable as well. Having a long domain is bad for memory and difficult to advertise. Remember that advertising will generate the bulk of your revenue unless you have a storefront in which you sell items or services. There are popular words or phrases already registered that you can buy at buydomains.com. If your web site is in a niche market, your word(s) may not be registered already which will save you some money.

DOMAIN AVAILABILITY There are already a lot of great domain names in use so you may want to utilize domain finder tools to assist with your domain name selection. Domainsuperstar.com has many tools to choose from including keyword domains, dropped domains, dictionary domains. Alerts can also be set to inform you when the domain you want becomes available.

Many simple domains are readily available in many subjects. However, it is important you don’t sacrifice the integrity of your site by settling for a sub-standard domain name. It’s really up to you, the provider, as to which word you choose. Often one word will suffice. Having a domain with a memorable name will ensure that people will come back to your site and view your content. The shorter the name the more easily word of mouth advertising can be achieved such as mountainbiking.com.

KEYWORDS Having searchable keywords in your domain name and in your page is absolutely mandatory. Keywords are how 95 percent of the population finds what they are looking for. They should be easily understood and get straight to the point of the website. When and if you switch web hosting companies, your domain goes with you, so make sure you feel good about the name. You will want to spread the name of your domain and of course advertise your site. Keyword density is a vast component in ranking pages and you will want them as much as possible on your main page and in XHTML code.

AVOID HYPHENS Simplified domains without any hyphens or misspelled slang can ensure that your site is easy to find. Making your domain name unique is important, but not at the expense of confusing visitors. Avoid using symbols of all kinds when choosing your domain. They are used infrequently and can be difficult to remember. Sometimes people choose hyphens because the simply domain name they want is taken; it’s better to change the name then to stubbornly keep the name with hyphens – you could inadvertently drive customers to the “normal” site and defeat your purpose entirely.

SEARCH ENGINE VISIBILITY Google ranks your pages according to the number of links pointing at your page, so you should get as many links pointing at your pages as possible. Google seems to give weight to the XHTML title of your page so remember to change it to some related text such as “MOUNTAINBIKE” inside to harvest the benefit of this feature.

REGISTER YOUR BUSINESS AS A .MOBI Mobile device web use such as smart phones is on the rise. By registering your domain as a .com top level domain as well as a .mobi top level domain you increase traffic and can get more hits on your site.

Michael Stanton is a financial consultant and he recommends always taking time to choose a great domain name for your website. Check out this site for an example of unique UK domain niches, such as business domains, to give you some great ideas.

VoIP has actually been around for quite some time now, long enough for the sharp edges to soften and many of the initial problems with the system to have been dealt with. And to many people in the corporate world, and to some individuals, it now ranks with the necessities of modern life, the amenities undreamed of by our recent ancestors, but which we today find indispensable. The personal computer, for example – how many executives today would be able to function without their personal computer or laptop? The internet, that incredible communications tool, that allows a person to run a company scattered across the globe, and to make deals across nations. VoIP is newer than both these inventions, obviously, but its fast gaining credence as a necessity of modern life.

1. Some of the advantages that VoIP offers, are, of course utter versatility and an extreme cost effectiveness (at least to a large organization with extensive global or national stations and networks). To an organization with a large corporate network, or to an individual who functions on the same scale (some individuals do) VoIP represents massive savings in phone bills, savings that can range to up to eighty percent of what one would otherwise pay to a conventional phone company.

2. Then there’s versatility – if you’re in your car and need to send an email to your subordinate, well, VoIP can handle it. If you’d like to make a call to one of your suppliers, well, VoIP can handle it, even if that supplier is half a world away. Or would you like to bind an entire global company together with an intercom system that works just like a local intercom would? Yes, VoIP can do that too. So you see, the possibilities are really endless, and for a person or organization with vast communications requirements, VoIP is really the way to go, because, quite simply, where communications are concerned, it is the best and most sophisticated option available today.

3. But can VoIP be made to work alongside a normal phone line? Won’t there be an inevitable conflict. Well, that’s a myth. The reality is that a mix of traditional telecommunications systems and VoIP works extremely well, and indeed can give one an advantage in certain situations. For example, if your phone line go down, you still have VoIP, and if your VoIP network goes down, you still have your conventional phone lines to fall back upon. Many systems also allow you to manage your destination number so if there are any technical difficulties you can root cause to cell phones or other landline numbers.

4. Now another myth that’s been doing the rounds is that setting up a VoIP network is easy. Well, it might be so, for an individual with limited needs. But if your organization is national or even global, then it’s best that you bring in a service provider of considerable experience, because that’s exactly what you’re going to need if your organization is to really harness the complete potential inherent in VoIP.

5. Another advantage that dealing with a service provider gives you if you have a large network is that you can write into the contract that the service provider has to troubleshoot. Complex issues can often arise with a complex network, and have a team of experienced troubleshooters on your side can be a distinct advantage.

6. You need expensive hardware – this is another myth I’m afraid to say and one that many people believe. If you want just one phone in an office you can have everything setup for under $80. Some people might require a more sophisticated system and there are many suppliers who have services which are 100% online social to not have to make any purchases of extra equipment – all you need is the handset in your office is capable of connecting to the Internet. You also find that many cell phones are also capable of setting up voice over IP services and this can be another saving.

As with most other things in life, VoIP can offer you lots of advantages and features, if you have the know-how and the wherewithal to reach for them. Generally you will find that many operators offer the same type of service. Make sure you’re a savvy shopper and check out your local service providers. You’ll be surprised at how much money you can save by choosing to use this type of service especially if you make lots of long distance calls.

If the last update to your website was made during the Clinton administration, or you’ve just started your business, then you may be looking for ways to improve the look and feel of your website. There are certain factors you should consider like design, content, and format. Also, you should make it easier for your customers to follow you on social media sites and share your content with their friends. This article will show you six ways to take your website from ugly and boring to beautiful and relevant.

Using a Clean Design

There’s nothing worse than a website that’s cluttered with advertisements and an ugly design. It’s important to use a “clean” design that’s easy for your visitors to consume. If you’re using WordPress, you have a ton of great-looking themes to choose from, both free and paid. No matter which platform you use for your site, make sure that it has a simple design and is easy to navigate.

Fresh Content

If you’re producing content on a regular basis, you’ll get more traffic to your site and build a loyal audience. Not only will you get more traffic from search engines like Google, you’ll have more opportunities to publish content that gets “liked” and shared by your readers. Commit to publishing content on a regular basis, and you’ll have a website that brings more attention to you and your business.

Stop Being Boring

Too many website owners make the mistake of not formatting their content properly. Put yourself in the shoes of one of your readers. Would you like to see a long page of boring text, or would you rather see a Blog post that is broken down into smaller paragraphs and subheadings? You might also want to add pictures or video to make your content more visually appealing. Create something that you would want to see yourself.

RSS Feeds

Having an RSS feed gives you another chance to keep in touch with visitors to your website. If the reader likes your content, she can subscribe to your RSS feed. Any time that you make a new post, your visitor is notified through her feed reader that you’ve written a new piece of content. Your audience gets the chance to subscribe to your content like they would to a newspaper or magazine.

Your Opt-In Form is Your Meal Ticket

An opt-in form is probably the most important part of your website. If you can get someone to fill out the form and give you their email, then you have the ability to communicate with them over and over again – and make more sales. Make sure that the form is located where your visitors can see it, and tell them what they get when they sign up for the list.

Social Media Buttons

The importance of social media is something that you’re probably well aware of. This is why you should add social media buttons to your site. Not only should you have buttons that point to your own social media accounts, you should also have buttons that allow people to like and share your content. Facebook’s “like” and “share” buttons should be included in every post, as well as the Twitter “retweet” button. You could potentially receive a lot of traffic from these sites.
Competing in cyber-space takes some know-how, but it’s not rocket science. Using these steps will be huge improvements to the look and feel of your site, while increasing market traffic to grow your business.

Eric Wyatt writes content for Internet marketing and social media sites. He particularly focuses on conversion optimization and landing page optimization.
