Driving is dangerous at the best of times, with roads becoming increasingly congested and driving standards seeming to slip. We could therefore do without unnecessary distractions, but we simply wouldn’t be human if we hadn’t had our attention wane at some point while behind the wheel.

Price comparison website MoneySupermarket.com therefore set out on a mission to find the ten biggest distractions which are faced by motorists on a daily basis by conducting a survey encompassing over 2,000 drivers. Some of the distractions which were named might shock you…

10. Twitter

With over 175 million users world wide, it is perhaps unsurprising to find the Twitter has made it onto the top ten list. With an increasing number of motorists now owning smart phones with social networking capabilities, the number of people who are capable of interacting while on the move is growing.

It seems that not everyone has yet developed boundaries for when it is and isn’t acceptable to take advantage of these devices, with Twitter having been named as a distraction by 1% of those surveyed.

One recent high profile victim of this phenomenon was Dr Frank Ryan who died in a car accident inBeverly Hillslast summer. It is believed that he had been tweeting at the time that the crash occurred.

9. Facebook

Facebook is still the most popular social networking website around, with the company claiming that it has an unbelievable 800 million world wide users. It is therefore understandable that it managed to finish above Twitter in this list. Nevertheless, both Facebook and Twitter and likely to become far more prominent on this list in the coming years as the number of people who own smart phones that feature social networking apps increases.

However, both of these companies are likely to face competition from another social networking website in the coming years; namely Google+ which was launched earlier this year. This could well be another distraction which is named by motorists on future versions of this survey.

8. Make-up

5% of drivers who responded to the survey admitted applying cosmetic products while driving; possibly while in a rush to get to work in the mornings. However, this excuse will not wash with the authorities, with motorists convicted of this act likely to face financial penalties and have points added to their licence.

The real number of motorists guilty of this is likely to be far higher, with The Telegraph reporting that up to half a million road crashes are caused by people applying make-up in theUKalone each year.

7. Fatigue

Prepare for the most shocking statistic on this list…5% of the motorists surveyed admitted that they had at least started to fall asleep while driving on some occasions. This is a terrifying realisation, with these people not only placing themselves in danger; but also endangering the lives of others.

There really is no excuse for this anymore, with government campaigns warning of the dangers of driving while suffering from fatigue and the majority of roadside hotels willing to offer cheap rates for motorists in search of a couple of hours rest before continuing their journeys.

6. Texting

Smart phones have already helped social networks Facebook and Twitter into the top ten of driving distractions; it therefore seems logical that texting should also make it given that more phones are capable of texting than are capable of social networking.

16% of motorists admitted to texting while driving. This is despite the findings of a study conducted by Texas University which found that motorists who text while driving are 11 times more likely to miss a red light and will see their reaction times delayed by 3-4 seconds on average.

5. Becoming Detective

21% of those surveyed admitted that they regularly take their attention off the road ahead of them in order survey accidents involving other motorists. This is despite the fact that it increases the chances of the driver being involved in an accident themselves if the traffic up ahead suddenly stops.

Another unfortunate by-product of people slowing down to take a closer look at accidents is of course further congestion and a greater possibility of traffic jams.

4. Calling

So far mobile phones have been responsible for the presence of Twitter, Facebook and texting on this top ten list; it therefore makes sense that they would also be responsible for distracting due to their main purpose; with 23% of motorists admitting to having been distracted while driving by making or receiving phone calls.

This doesn’t necessarily mean the illegal usage of phones, as taking via Bluetooth kits is also included in this. A recent study byCarnegieMellonUniversityfound that any kind of phone usage will reduce a driver’s focus on the task at hand by 37%.

3. Drinking

51% of respondents claimed that they regularly drink while driving. It should be noted that this doesn’t include drinks of the alcoholic variety. Nevertheless, it still requires the driver to take one hand off the wheel and hence increases the chances of the motorist losing control of the vehicle.

2. Eating

The same number of survey respondents also admitted to eating while driving. The same kinds of risks also apply in this situation, and it is therefore recommended that drivers refrain from this action whenever possible.

However, eating and drinking while driving seems to be becoming increasingly common place in the modern day and age, with hectic lifestyles resulting in more motorists choosing to eat their breakfasts on the way to work in the mornings. Indeed, Facebook groups have been set up for people who regularly conduct this offence.

1. Music

The distraction which was named most frequently by motorists is actually music. This is nothing new, with cassette players, radios and CD players having been common place in the majority of vehicles for many years.

However, with more people now owning iPods this distraction is becoming increasingly dangerous as the devices require more of the motorists attention to operate. Music was named as a distraction by an overwhelming 61% of respondents.

One of the best and least known places to take a great honeymoon is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This string of islands off the coast is the perfect place for honeymooners to catch a little sun and play in the surf. It is also a great place for history lovers.

Things to Do

1. Fun in the Sand and Water

The islands have wonderful beaches that are great for lounging and playing in the surf. They are a great place to swim in the ocean as well. Other popular water sports include windsailing, bodysurfing, diving and fishing.

2. Nature Watching

Nature lovers will adore the Outer Banks. Cape Hatteras National Seashore is just one of many places where visitors can watch the pelicans, turtles and other wildlife that abound on the islands. Adventurous honeymooners can hike the Hammock Hills Nature Trail and travel through sand dunes, forest and marshes. The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke is a good place to view sea life up close. Visitors can also visit the wild ponies on Ocracoke.

3. History

For those who are into historical attractions, the Outer Banks couldn’t be a better spot. The first, and unfortunately ill-fated, colony in the New World was established on Roanoke. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is the home of the world’s first flight. The Ocracoke Village Visitors Center and Museum has exhibits dedicated to the infamous pirate Blackbeard, who fought his last battle just offshore.

4. Shopping

The islands have plenty of places to shop. Visitors can find everything from the usual tourist shops on up to major department stores. The Stop-N-Shop Beach Shop in Kill Devil Hills has everything a visitor could want, from sunglasses to souvenirs to a good sandwich. The Tanger Outlets in Nags Head is full of name brand outlet stores such as J Crew Factory, Aeropostale, Nautica and Tommy Hilfilger.

5. Music

Deepwater Theater on Ocracoke is one of the many places to experience live music or theater performances.

Where to Stay

Honeymooners have a variety of places to stay. Many hotels are located on each island, some of them right on the beach and some further inland. The nightly price varies accordingly. Condo rentals are also available. There are also many charming bed and breakfast establishments and inns to choose from, many of them right on the water. Ramona’s Cottage, the Inn on Pamlico Sound and the Cape Hatteras Bed and Breakfast are some of the better known inns.

Where to Eat

The islands have a number of good eating establishments. Hurricane Mo’s Restaurant and Raw Bar is rightly famous, as is its companion establishment, Hurricane Mo’s Beachside Bar and Grill. Other well-known restaurants include Dirty Dick’s Crab House, Awful Arthur’s Oyster Bar, Blue Point and Penguin Isle.

Top of the mornin’ to ya! And the rest of the day to yourself. For such a small country, Ireland comes with plenty of clichés, such as the 40 shades of green, the homeland of the leprechauns, finding your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the perfect place to go for a drop o’ the black stuff and the love of drinking.

However, Ireland has plenty of unexpected sights to offer such as its historical buildings, rich heritage and culture, pubs, music, famous cities and amazing lush countryside. Ireland truly is the place to go for the banter and craic and don’t let all that Irish rain damped your mood. There are too many amazing sights to see when visiting Ireland so here are five of the best.

1. Belfast City

Capital of the North, home to the Titanic, famous for its Irish linen industry and more commonly known for Ireland’s political conflicts, Belfast is perfect city for sightseeing. While visiting Belfast it is almost impossible to miss the Republican murals that appear all over the city. The murals mainly represent Ireland reborn from the flames of the 1916 Easter Rising, the face of hunger striker Bobby Sands, and scenes and figures from Irish mythology. Take a walk down the famous Falls road to experience the sectarian history and be amazed by the memorials in honor of people who died during the Irish conflict. The city is a paradise for shoppers with many traditional shopping streets around the centre. The best areas include Victoria Square, Lisburn Road, Royal Avenue and St George’s Market. Belfast people will always offer a warm welcome. The city is relativity easy to get around, has a great night life, a strong cultural heritage and offers an amazing atmosphere.

2. Blarney Castle and Blarney Stone

Five miles North West of Cork is the small town of Blarney, home to the impressive Blarney Castle. Placed at the very top of the castles battlement tower is the world famous Blarney stone. Tradition says whoever kisses the stone will be given the eternal gift of eloquence, also known as the ‘gift of the gab’. Over 300,000 people visit the Castle each year to climb to the top of the tower to bend over backwards and kiss the stone. If the idea of kissing a rock backwards high up in the air doesn’t float your boat then the castle grounds are over a thousand acres of magnificent woodland, making it ideal place to walk and enjoy the clean fresh environment of Blarney and get lost in the romantic Irish countryside.

3. Giant’s Causeway

Situated on the North coast of Ireland is the Giant’s Causeway, an area of approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns which was the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. The Causeway is often described as the eighth wonder of the world and is the only World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. The coastline is steeped in legends and folklore about Finn Mac Cool, a mythical giant who is said to have used the causeway as a stepping stone to Scotland. The area has many stunning coastal and cliff paths for exploring. The causeway is perfect to discover the sea birds which can be seen off the coast and rare unusual plant species which can be found on the cliffs and nearby rock formations. The Causeway offers amazing views over the coastline and on good days you can see as far as Scotland.

4. Guinness Factory Dublin

No trip to Ireland would be complete without a visit to the Guinness Factory. Situated in the heart of Dublin, Ireland’s number one tourist attraction is a rite of passage into the Irish culture. Discover all there is to know about the world’s most famous beer and learn how the whole Guinness story started and had developed over 250 years. The factory is spaced over seven floors situated around a pint-shaped heart of glass. One of the best elements of the tour is the chance to relax in the Gravity bar located in the head of the glass pint where visitors can sit back and enjoy the 360 degree panoramic views across Dublin, not to mention the complimentary pint of the black stuff.

5. Dingle Peninsula

The Dingle Peninsular is definitely one of the best landscapes in Western Europe, with its density and variety of archaeological monuments. It is totally impossible to visit the Peninsula and not be impressed by the ancient sites, breathtaking geographical features, un-spoilt coastal landscapes and beaches. The perfect place to experience the real rural Ireland with roads leading over mountain passes, the Dingle peninsula is also the place to pick up some Irish phrases, as the Irish language is still commonly spoken around these parts leaving you with the real nostalgic feeling of Ireland.

Once you come to Ireland you will be given a ‘C’ead Mile Failte’ (A Hundred Thousand Welcomes). Ireland is truly special and allows you to experience a culture steeped in history. The warm hospitality, delicious traditional Irish food and drink, brilliant Irish music, and beautiful landscapes will just leave you wanting more.

Buying a piano is a great way to add a beautiful, musical showpiece to any home. But it’s not quite the same as buying a new painting or house plant. Even though there are many benefits to owning a piano, it is major investment. Owning a piano means having constant access to a musical instrument that can help feed your body, mind and soul. But if you’re looking to buy a piano for the first time, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Usage

Knowing how you plan to use your piano is a major consideration before making any kind of purchase. If you plan to have large soirees with a concert quality musical backdrop then the piano you need will probably be quite expensive. But if you’re simply looking for a functional instrument that can be used for practice, a used vertical piano will probably suffice.

It’s also important to note who will be playing the piano. If the piano is being purchased to help children learn to play, then key sensitivity is an important factor. Little fingers will need keys which are sensitive to their touch. This may mean that the keyboard mechanism needs to be adjusted to accommodate children. The more responsive the piano is to their touch the more they will be able to “feel” the music.

Quality

Once you’ve figured out how you intend to use the piano in your home you’ll want to get into the nitty gritty of what constitutes quality. In general, the larger the piano is, the better the tone will be. But if you don’t have 20 grand and at least 12 square feet of free space you’re most likely going to have to settle for a more petite model. It’s ok though, even smaller pianos can provide beautiful music and scenery along with an education.

Of course if you are buying a new piano in a showroom, the dealer will likely be more interested in making a sale than making sure you have the best piano for your money. So if you can, bring someone with some level of piano expertise on your shopping trip. Granted, all pianos are constructed in adherence to a code of ethics practiced by the Piano Manufacturers Association International (PMAI). But an expert will be able to inspect the individual components of the piano and hear the nuances of tone quality that truly distinguish the merit of the instrument.

Quality is an even bigger factor if you are looking at buying a used piano. This percussion instrument can be somewhat deceiving. Cosmetic problems are easy to spot, but others aren’t so evident. Often issues that seem major are not, while the tiny, hard to see problems can be deal breakers. For example loose or broken keys can be fixed with minimal effort. But bad pinblocks or cracked soundboards are issues that may require an entire structural over-haul, making the repairs more expensive than the value of the piano. If you are even looking at a used piano, then definitely enlist the services of an expert. Pay them for their appraisal if necessary, because in the end it will be much cheaper than winding up with a lemon of a piano.

Cost

The cost of your piano is going to depend largely on the quality and condition of the instrument. Pianos, like cars, can be purchased new or used. Also like cars, looks can be deceiving and prior treatment and maintenance will determine the value of the used item. Unlike cars however, pianos have a lifespan of about 40 years when they are treated properly. That means it’s completely possible to get an older, used piano, which is in excellent condition and will serve your needs perfectly. Used pianos are generally much cheaper than new ones but they also don’t come with warranties. It also may mean working outside of a retailer and dealing with individual sellers located through places like Craigslist.

The size and style of your piano will also have a major impact on the cost. There are both vertical and horizontal pianos with different models of each kind. In the vertical category you can choose from Spinet, Console, Studio or Upright. Within the horizontal variety there are Petite Grand, Baby Grand, Medium Grand, Parlor Grand, Semi-concert or Ballroom and Concert Grand. Obviously the larger horizontal kinds are going to be much more expensive than the vertical choices. Expect to spend at least $500 even on a fixer-upper. For modest smaller varieties like the Spinet, Console or Studio you’re in the $1000 – $8000 range. A low-end Baby Grand can be found for about $5000 but the better known brands like Steinway, run upwards of $10,000. For anything fancier than that, you’re definitely spending at least 5 figures. It really comes down to a question of need and intended use.

Space and Transport

Getting and storing your piano is another issue that is worth thinking about. Spinets and Consoles are particularly useful for smaller spaces like apartments, while most homes can accommodate a Studio, Upright or Petite Grand. The larger pianos usually require the square footage of a bigger than average house. Beyond just the piano you’ll need to think about sitting and moving comfortably around the piano. This is particularly important for proper inspection, care and maintenance. It’s also crucial to make sure that the piano isn’t exposed to direct sunlight which can damage both the finish and the musical mechanisms of the piano. Proper humidity is also important because too much or too little air moisture can cause cracking in the pinblock and soundboard.

As for getting your new piano home you’ll definitely need help. Even the small pianos are fairly heavy, but the bigger you get the more intense the transport process becomes. If you buy a new piano at a store delivery may be included in the purchase. But if you buy a used piano from an individual, you may need the assistance of professional piano movers to get it home. So if you’re shopping outside of a retailer, build some room into your budget to cover carriage.

Maintenance

Piano maintenance is serious business. If you cut corners on the care you run the risk of doing serious damage. A well maintained piano won’t decrease in value, but if you slack off or attempt DIY repairs you could make your expensive instrument worthless. A piano may require, repairing, reconditioning or rebuilding. But these are all different levels of upgrades and restoration that may not be necessary for every piano.

However any piano will need tuning, regulation and cleaning. Re-tuning is the bi-annual adjustment of string tension to ensure proper tones. It’s possible to learn the skill of re-tuning, but it’s also wise to hire a tuner/technician that is trained to inspect the piano for other problems as well. Regulation need only be done every 5-10 years, but it is a necessary and extensive fine-tuning of many of the instrument’s components. This treatment is time and labor intensive and will likely cost upwards of $1000. Cleaning can be done easily by the owner but the finish on your piano will determine the proper methods and solutions for cleaning the surface without doing harm.

Owning a piano can be a life enriching pleasure, but getting the right one will make all the difference. A piano is not something that many people would purchase on a whim, because those who wish to own this magnificent instrument understand its complexities. But with research, a plan and the help of knowledgeable specialists you can be fully armed to make the best possible decision. If you do the hard work, you’ll be rewarded with a home and a life made more musical by the presence of the perfect piano.

The Baby Boomer generation witnessed music making at its very best. Anyone who was born between 1946 and 1964 knows their radio exploded with the sounds of every conceivable style. Pop music flourished, with melodies ranging from sweet and catchy to funky and psychedelic. A number of Baby Boomer songs became so popular they went on to be covered by other artists who had the ability to put a different spin on each tune. Here are 10 songs guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

1) “Dancing in the Street”

Martha and the Vandellas’ 1964 song got everyone out in the street and up on the dance floor. The fun-loving, happy-go-lucky tune that asked everyone to run outside and start dancing gained popular again when it was covered by the rock group Van Halen in 1982.
2) “Twist and Shout”

The Top Notes’ 1961 dance song makes everyone feel like letting loose. This tune’s happy, positive message was probably what captured the interest of The Beatles when they remade it 2 years later in 1963.
3) “Tainted Love”

Gloria Jones let everyone know that a bad love affair can be poisonous to the heart in her 1964 rendition of this Baby Boomer classic. But it was new wave Soft Cells that had the cure when their moody techno version became a chart blockbuster back in 1981.
4) “Hound Dog”

Big Mama Thornton let everyone know that acting like a hound dog will only get you in trouble, when she released this catchy tune back in 1953. But it took some hip swiveling and the voice of Elvis Presley to make it a blockbuster hit with the Baby Boomers back in 1956.
5) “I Put A Spell On You”

Screamin’ Jay Hawkins had first dibs at “I Put a Spell On You,” back in 1956. But it was Credence Clearwater Revival’s remake that gave the song an extra touch of magic, when they released their version in 1968.

“La Bamba”

6) Ritchie Valens’ rock classic “La Bamba” may have achieved popularity when it was first released in 1958 but the song gained a whole new legion of fans when it was covered by the group Los Lobos in 1987 for the movie “La Bamba,” which depicted Valens’ short life and tragic end.
7) “Real Wild Child”

When Johnny O’Keefe and the Deejays came out with their 1958 rock classic, there was no way they could have possibly predicted that prolific punk-rocker Iggy Pop’s 1986 remake would show them what a real wild child looked like.
8) “Stay”

Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs’ mesmerizing hit, “Stay” may have captured the sound and feeling of love and yearning in 1964, but Jackson Browne’s 1977 live version took it in a different direction; encapsulating the sometimes lonely life of a touring musician.
9) “Time is on my Side”

Irma Thomas was the original voice behind this 1964 classic, which wound up gaining status as a true hit with a hint of the blues when the single was performed by the Rolling Stones that same year.
10) “Sea of Love”

Phil Phillips’ romantic ballad was the perfect song for a slow dance when it first came out back in 1959. Twenty-five years later, The Honey Drippers put their own spin on the this ballad when they covered it in 1984.

Ok, now you have ten great songs to get the ball rolling. It’s time for you to break out your old LP’s and 45’s and find a few more from that awesome musical era, or try making it a family game to come up with the next ten fantastic remakes!

Nobody likes having to do the toilet shuffle anywhere, but knowing the bathroom habits of the movie business, you certainly wouldn’t be caught short in any of the following movie scenes:

5. Psycho – The Bates Motel

The Psycho shower scene is surely one of the single most well known scenes in movie history, parodied a million times over (often with insane attention to the shots that went into the scene). It’s a masterwork of suspense: The shadow behind the curtain, Janet Leigh’s screaming face and the blood running down the plug-hole are images etched into the minds of people who have never even seen the film. And then there’s that piece of music…

So why isn’t this iconic scene higher up our list of virtually unusable movie bathrooms? Well, because the horror hinges on that silhouette behind the shower curtain. Whilst there’s a general advisory against stopping off at the Bates Motel, at least on the toilet you’d probably not be caught unawares (though you would literally be caught with your pants down).

4. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – Myrtle’s Bathroom

What’s a nice family friendly action adventure doing in amongst all these horror movies and mature rated titles, you might ask. Trust me on this one: the second floor girl’s lavatory in Hogwarts is not somewhere you’d want to sit down for a quick toilet break. This bathroom is home to the most annoying character in the Harry Potter series, which I’m sure you can appreciate, is quite a significant achievement. Not only is she dead (which means zero privacy) she has a habit of flooding the toilets whenever anyone points that out. And even in this PG rated film, she seems a little, you know, too interested in visitors to the stalls.

Worse still, it turns out that this bathroom is the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets itself, and that Lord Voldemort’s giant snake has been crawling through the plumbing. Even without considering the Freudian consequences of that, this is bad news. Unless you’re fortunate enough to catch its stare in the reflection of something. Just like everyone else.

Want the experience yourself? The video above shows the Wizarding World of Harry Potter bathroom where Myrtle resides. May just pass on that one next time in Orlando.

3. The Shining – Here’s Johnny!

Bathrooms pop up several times in the Shining (when Jack meets the Butler, ‘Delbert Grady’, who may be a ghost of the previous caretaker who went on a rampage), but the scene near the film’s climax is one of Film’s most frightening bathroom suites. Whilst quipping ‘Here’s Johnny!’ is one of the greatest moments in film improv, the thought of being locked into any tiny, dingy, inescapable space whilst your insane loved one hacks open the door with an axe is a cornerstone of human fear.

2. Full Metal Jacket – The ‘Head’

Stanley Kubrick sure liked setting the important events of his movies in the bathroom. Not only do we have Jack above bursting into the bathroom, axe in hand, but just about every other film contains at least one scene in the bathroom, even if it’s just young Alex having a long soak in A Clockwork Orange or David Bowman walking around bemused in a spacesuit in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

But by far his most disturbing Bathroom scene has to be in Full Metal Jacket, when the unbalanced Leonard Lawrence (nicknamed ‘Gomer Pyle’) is found sitting on the toilet with a face that shouts insanity. After maniacally drilling and shouting at the top his lungs, Pyle shoots his abusive drill sergeant and then bloodily turns the gun on himself.
It’s a shocking counterpoint to the full on intensity of The Shining’s horror. Deeply unsettling and unnerving. Hardly what you want when you’re trying to negotiate a bowel movement.

1. Trainspotting – ‘The Worst Toilet in Scotland’

Just from the title, you know this one’s going to be bad. Funnily enough, most of the real toilet horror stories out there are very real, and a good friend of mine assures me that most of them are Scottish. The very idea of ‘the worst toilet in Scotland’ therefore fills me with untold amounts of fear. Ewan McGregor drops his trousers with a bad case of diarrhoea and goes for a quick swim in the bizarrely spacious U-bend in search of his opium suppositories. It’s a foul moment in an utterly uncompromising film that will put you off Public toilets for the rest of your life.

From Europe to the US and from beach breaks to city breaks, choosing the right destination for a stag weekend can be difficult. It’s always important that you find out as much as possible about what you want from the weekend, as every destination has its own individual gems to offer. These are some of the best destinations that offer everything you could ask for to make the perfect stag weekend.

Amsterdam

Despite being one of the smallest capital cities in Europe, Amsterdam should not be underestimated. As the capital of the Netherlands, it is bursting with history and entertainment.

With its liberal attitude to life, it is well known for its special coffee shops and red light district, however there is plenty more to give credit for and to be experienced in this beautiful city. Boasting cobbled streets, winding canals, cafés, art galleries (including the famous Van Gogh Museum), bars and clubs, it’s no wonder Amsterdam is so popular for stag weekends.

Float along the canal with a beer in hand, hire some bikes and cycle around until you end up in one of the many late night clubs to party the night away. For those looking for a city with everything to offer, Amsterdam will certainly not disappoint.

Prague

When you think of Prague, images of a dramatic political and economic past are conjured up. However, as well as its incredible history, there is an abundance of galleries, parks, restaurants, beer gardens and clubs which make Prague one of the most exciting stag destinations in Eastern Europe.

The capital of the Czech Republic, there are a number of architectural must sees when visiting from the famous Prague castle on the hilltop, to St Nicholas Cathedral and Charles Bridge which crosses the Vltava river.

For a break after sightseeing, head down to the Old Town where you’ll find narrow cobbled streets full of restaurants and bars where you can relax and enjoy the very cheap Czech beer and hospitality.

Las Vegas

When you think of the true, full on, ultimate stag destination, there can be no other contender than Las Vegas. To say that Vegas is an invasion of the senses is a major understatement.

Bright lights, grand replicas of famous monuments such as the Eiffel Tower, all night casinos, spectacular shows and entertainment, it’s every man’s dream and not difficult to understand why Las Vegas is so popular with groups on a stag party. Named the Entertainment Capital of the World, Vegas is the most populated city in the state of Nevada. It is a Mecca of entertainment enclosed in a desert valley.

“The Strip” is where you’ll find famous hotels such as the Bellagio and Planet Hollywood, and they’ll both be striving for the competitive edge with spectacular shows to entice people to stay there but also for the purpose of pure entertainment; exactly what Vegas is all about. Vegas will definitely provide an unforgettable weekend. In Vegas, anything is possible!

Munich

Munich is the capital city of the German state of Bavaria and is located on the River Isar. The home of the annual and world famous Oktoberfest, a two week long festival of beer drinking and music, it’s hugely popular with groups of men who want to drink and be merry.

There’s more to Munich than this renowned festival though. For music lovers, most bars play live music all year round, and beer gardens and clubs stay open well into the night. For those looking for a bit of light hearted tradition, a visit to Hofbräuhaus, one of the oldest breweries in Munich, is an essential when visiting with a group of friends. Not only is it educational, you’ll also get to sample more of the fine German beer which is served in steins typically holding one litre!

With the cities motto being “Munchen mag Dich” which translates as “Munich likes you” it’s impossible not to have a good time here.

Barcelona

The World’s Most Expensive Books

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and perhaps that explains why the world’s most famous paintings sell for hundreds of millions of dollars more than the most expensive books. But even so, nothing can capture the insight into the author’s mind like carefully woven words penned in the master’s own hand, and when that master is Leonardo da Vinci – thirty million dollars is a bargain.

Below is a current list of the ten most expensive books in the world. The dollar amount is the rounded-value auction or sale price as of their most recent sale date (in parentheses) and is not adjusted for inflation. This list is in a constant state of flux with auctions being held every year around the world, so if this is a topic that interests you, check out collectible book blogs for updates.

1. The Codex Leicester – Leonardo da Vinci. $30.8M (1994)

The Codex is a collection of largely scientific writings by Leonardo da Vinci that provide a rare insight into his mind as an artist, scientist and social thinker. It is exceptionally well-illustrated, spanning the abyss between scientific methodology and creative artistry.

2. The Gospels of Henry the Lion – $12.4M (1983)

The Gospel book was commissioned by the Henry the lion, Duke of Saxony for the altar of the Virgin Mary in the Brunswick Cathedral. It is 266 pages long including fifty full-page full-color illustrations.

3. The Birds of America – $8.8M (2000)

The Birds of America is a life-sized illustrated encyclopedia describing a wide variety of birds native to the United States as observed by John James Audubon himself.

4. The Canterbury Tales - $7M (1998)

Written toward the end of the fourteenth century by Geoffrey Chaucer, The Canterbury Tales is a collection of stories narrated by a group of pilgrims traveling together from Southwark to Canterbury Cathedral. Chaucer used the tales as a medium to scorn and criticize modern English society at the time, and specifically the Church.

5. The Gutenberg Bible – $5.4M (1987)

Also known as the Mazarin Bible, it marks the beginning of the Gutenberg Revolution and the age mechanically printed mass-produced books. Printed by Johannes Gutenberg in the 1450s, it is highly acclaimed for both its aesthetic and artistic qualities.

6. Traité des Arbres Fruitiers - $4.5M (2006)

Written by Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau around 1750, the title literally translates into Treatise on Fruit Trees. It’s a five-volume set illustrating sixteen different species of fruit trees, with descriptions and definitions throughout.

7. The Northumberland Bestiary – $5.4M (1987)

Named after a former owner, The Bestiary is a medieval encyclopedia of animals, both real and imagined, that are also used as characters to teach moral lessons through pictures and proverbs. There is a decidedly religious bent to the lessons, where male lions are reflections of God and dragons embody the evil of Satan.

8. First Folio: Comedies, Histories and Tragedies – $5.5M (2006)

First published several years after his death, Comedies, Histories and Tragedies includes more than a dozen of William Shakespeare’s plays, including some of his best-known classics and more than a few that have never been made public.

9. Cosmography – $4.2M (2006)

A copy of the first atlas ever printed, Cosmography is based on the work of Greek mathematician and geographer Ptolemy.

10. Mozart’s 9 Symphonies Manuscript - $4.1M (1990)

While technically not a book in the tradition of linear storytelling, the manuscript is nonetheless a collection of nine symphonies from one of the greatest masters who ever lived and autographed by his own hand.

Santeria- Sublime:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCqjooCosw0

For a lot of people this is the beer pong theme song. Try changing this song when someone is playing BP and you might end up on Youtube right next to the idiot that got beat up for requesting Sweet Caroline at a New York club. For what it’s worth I have personally seen up to streaks of up to 6 cups of beer in a row when this song was playing, coincidence I think not.

7. Dog problems – The Format:

Now this is probably the one song on the list you haven’t heard of but that’s OK because this is the song that no one knows what it is except the group of badasses by the speakers who put it on. You will definitely go home and download this song given that you remember the night. I prefer this to bohemian rhapsody which a lot of people oddly like when they’re wasted.

6. Fat lip – Sum 41

And here comes the first true rock song of the list. This is the song where every guy goes “fuck yea!” as soon as the beginning guitar comes in. after the first set of notes the guitar gets heavier and the rioting begins. It will be nothing but obnoxious violence all the way until the words “Don’t count on me” come on. I shit you not the violence will stop and every one will hold their drink in the air and just sing and sway. As soon as it gets loud again though if you don’t want to get hurt you better head for the couches. Only the stock market makes people go from violent to calm in more dramatic fashion.

5. Tiny dancer – Elton John:

Now I know what you’re thinking how is tiny dancer a drinking song. You would be amazed how much drunk people get into this song. It always starts out with one person leading and by the chorus everyone has their eyes closed tight and their fists clenched singing in the highest voice they possibly can. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to reenact the bus scene from Almost Famous when your drinking with your good friends…. i rest my case.

4. Alcohol – Brad Paisley:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df53LWQuezQ
The song is called alcohol so you shouldn’t be surprised it made this list. And, wow, do drunk people love to yell alcohol as loud as they can as they down another half a beer half way through saying it. If you’re looking to piss off the neighbors when you have a party this is the song for you.

3. Drift away – Uncle Kracker:

This is that drinking song that even Dad will raise his glass to. A remake by Uncle Kracker this is one of those songs where everyone knows the chorus but only the true drunks know the versus. (don’t try to challenge your dad on this one remember this is the second version of the song he has heard.)

2. Friends in low places – Garth Brooks:

I don’t know if it is because of the live version or if the song just implies it but as soon as you hear the first guitar strum you just always yell at the top of your lungs after the first guitar strum. This is a song where everyone will drop what they’re doing and put their arm around the shoulder of the person next to them and sway back and forth with their beer raised in the air singing as loud as they can. This is the one country song that everyone can agree on when it comes to the jukebox in the bar.

1. Sweet Caroline – Neil Diamond:

It was a very close first and second place Neil gets the nod here, The songs quiet in the beginning but give it a couple seconds and the whole room will stop and before you know it there won’t be any one in the room who’s not extending their arm out to someone and reaching out. Plus what other song can you obnoxiously yell BAH, BAH, BAH with your fist acting as a hammer as it violently smashes through the air when your plastered… That’s what I thought. (Boston fans everywhere are smiling.)
