Let’s face it; there are only so many career opportunities for a three-armed man who swallows flaming swords on a nightly basis. With the rough shape of the economy it has been even tougher on practitioners of alternative careers to find work. Thankfully, due to social media, these performers have been given a second chance to market themselves and secure gigs at local bars, concerts, and other entertainment venues.

1. Psychic

Before the development of social media, the only way to get a psychic reading would be to walk through an alley, down a flight of stairs, and into a creepy incense filled room while trying not to get entangled in the beads above the door. Today it is easy to find a psychic online using directory services like Keen.com which lists psychics by their skills, abilities, and experience. There is no need to travel for your psychic reading because the website offers options to either call or use a web based chat service for your counseling.

2. Magician

Unless you are The Amazing Johnathan or Penn and Teller, you are probably a very hard-working and resourceful magician who takes any gig available at the drop of a hat. By using social media outlets like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube it has become easier than ever to showcase your magic abilities and stage show for the whole world to witness.

3. Juggler

Times have never been worse for a juggler. With audiences not satisfied with the basic three-ball routine, most jugglers have resorted to more extreme measures such as chain-saws, torches, and flaming hula-hoops. Instead of trying to impress people night after night with these amazing yet dangerous feats for little or no pay; try taking your schtick to YouTube in order to send to potential employers.

4. Contortionist

Spots in Cirque du Soleil are hard to come by unless you are able to maintain really good connections with the big wigs in charge in French Canada. By taking advantage of YouTube videos you can create a viral sensation by taking people by surprise on a regular basis. The amount of shock on someone’s face when they see you wrapped around a light pole like a pretzel will be phenomenal and people are always craving more stuff like it to share with their friends and co-workers.

5. Belly Dancer

Belly Dancing, or Raqs Shaqi (aka The Dance of the Near East) has seen a recent resurgence with the popularity of hookah bars amongst young people. On a busy Friday or Saturday, hookah lounge owners are always on the lookout for entertainment of middle-eastern origin. These places are also trendy and hip enough to have a dedicated Facebook presence which can work to your advantage if you follow them and inquire about gigs.

Choosing an alternative entertainment career takes years of hard work and practice. After you have perfected your skills, the use of social media is an excellent way to make sure you are seen by a wider audience than ever before.

Having the opportunity to trek through a country or region offers adventure, intrigue, and a chance to find yourself while experiencing a completely novel lifestyle. There is so much worth seeing and doing, it can be difficult where to go when planning a backpacking trip. Before embarking on the adventure, take time to consider what types of amenities, culture, and overall experience you want during your trip.

1. India

For the most part, backpackers are looking to keep expenditures at a minimum while soaking in a new culture and experiencing the world. India is the perfect country to explore for those on a tight budget, but it is also steeped in history and culture. From the intricate Hindu temples to the majestic Taj Mahal, there is so much to see while backpacking through India. The country also has an extensive rail system, making it easy to get from one city to another.

2. Brazil

Like India, Brazil offers a complete cultural shift for eager young travelers looking for new experiences. The natural wonders to be discovered along the Amazon, bustling nightlife of Rio, and the splendid sandy beaches make Brazil an optimal destination for backpackers. Plus, this South American country is still relatively inexpensive making it an absolute dream for students traveling on a strict budget.

3. Western Europe

Perhaps the most classic destination for backpacking is Europe. From Big Ben to Pompeii, there are hundreds of experiences to be had on the European continent. The extensive rail system makes travel between countries easy and the prevalence of hostels throughout Europe is unmatched anywhere else in the world. There is a reason why so many young people flock to Europe to fulfill their backpacking dreams.

4. New Zealand

For student travelers looking for some adventure, New Zealand is perfect. Not only does the island nation boast incredible scenery, but there are plenty of opportunities to explore all the natural wonders. From deep sea diving to hiking up active volcanoes, there is a plethora of activities that will thrill even the most courageous backpackers.

5. Southeast Asia

If you desire a complete departure form the norm, consider exploring the beauty of Southeast Asia. This area boasts pristine beaches, exciting cities, and incredible examples of historic architecture unlike anything else on Earth. Plus, this region is very inexpensive, making it easy for backpackers to spend more time trekking through the countries.

Many young people plan to backpack through a country or region, but it can be difficult to decide where to go. Make sure to consider the type of trip that suits your tastes and make a list of places you definitely want to see. This can help guide you through the decision-making process, but be sure to look into the locations listed above as they all have so much to offer any traveler.

One of the best and least known places to take a great honeymoon is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This string of islands off the coast is the perfect place for honeymooners to catch a little sun and play in the surf. It is also a great place for history lovers.

Things to Do

1. Fun in the Sand and Water

The islands have wonderful beaches that are great for lounging and playing in the surf. They are a great place to swim in the ocean as well. Other popular water sports include windsailing, bodysurfing, diving and fishing.

2. Nature Watching

Nature lovers will adore the Outer Banks. Cape Hatteras National Seashore is just one of many places where visitors can watch the pelicans, turtles and other wildlife that abound on the islands. Adventurous honeymooners can hike the Hammock Hills Nature Trail and travel through sand dunes, forest and marshes. The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke is a good place to view sea life up close. Visitors can also visit the wild ponies on Ocracoke.

3. History

For those who are into historical attractions, the Outer Banks couldn’t be a better spot. The first, and unfortunately ill-fated, colony in the New World was established on Roanoke. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is the home of the world’s first flight. The Ocracoke Village Visitors Center and Museum has exhibits dedicated to the infamous pirate Blackbeard, who fought his last battle just offshore.

4. Shopping

The islands have plenty of places to shop. Visitors can find everything from the usual tourist shops on up to major department stores. The Stop-N-Shop Beach Shop in Kill Devil Hills has everything a visitor could want, from sunglasses to souvenirs to a good sandwich. The Tanger Outlets in Nags Head is full of name brand outlet stores such as J Crew Factory, Aeropostale, Nautica and Tommy Hilfilger.

5. Music

Deepwater Theater on Ocracoke is one of the many places to experience live music or theater performances.

Where to Stay

Honeymooners have a variety of places to stay. Many hotels are located on each island, some of them right on the beach and some further inland. The nightly price varies accordingly. Condo rentals are also available. There are also many charming bed and breakfast establishments and inns to choose from, many of them right on the water. Ramona’s Cottage, the Inn on Pamlico Sound and the Cape Hatteras Bed and Breakfast are some of the better known inns.

Where to Eat

The islands have a number of good eating establishments. Hurricane Mo’s Restaurant and Raw Bar is rightly famous, as is its companion establishment, Hurricane Mo’s Beachside Bar and Grill. Other well-known restaurants include Dirty Dick’s Crab House, Awful Arthur’s Oyster Bar, Blue Point and Penguin Isle.

In the past five years there have been 4,276 fatalities due to crashes in work zones nationwide. About every year there are 40,000 injuries that take place in these areas as well and 85 percent of those injured or killed in work zones are drivers and their passengers. Road safety in construction zones isn’t just for the benefit of the workers, but also to keep you and your passengers safe. Almost all of these crashes can be avoided with the driver following simple traffic laws and staying alert. Take these precautions today to make sure you keep yourself and those around you safe.

1. Slow Down

When approaching a work zone or construction area slow down. These areas will give you plenty of warning that you are entering a construction area and you need to be well aware that vehicles ahead of you may be stopping unexpectedly.

2. Obey Instructions

. Flag workers and emergency personnel are out there for a reason. Be sure to obey the instructions they have on their signs and always be aware of speed limits. Speeding not only increases the risk of accidents, but also, speeding fines are usually doubled in construction areas and can end up costing you thousands of dollars. With the new camera system by Optotraffic, Inc., police officers don’t even have to be present to issue you a ticket so slow down!

3. Stay Alert

When traveling through construction zones especially, stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. Don’t be distracted with cell phones or food. Stay focused on the road but also, be cautious of work vehicles entering the highway.

4. Give Yourself Room

Always give yourself plenty of room between you and other vehicles. This gives you more time to react if there is unexpected stopping or even if a crash occurs. Commercial trucks need double this amount of room because they take more space when trying to maneuver.

5. Don’t Stop and Gawk

It is extremely frustrating to drivers around you if you slow down just to check out what is happening. It also immensely increases the risk of being rear-ended or influencing aggressive driving.

6. Stay Calm

Try not to become frustrated or agitated with traffic. Many people tend to tailgate when they reach a slower section of the road but don’t let these other drivers influence the way you drive. Keep your cool and don’t feel the need to increase your speed. You could be saving their life.

7. Plan Ahead

When traveling, go to each state’s department of transportation website and be aware of the location of construction zones. If at all possible, avoid them all together. A few extra minutes is nothing compared to losing a life.

Sometimes, animals just aren’t content with their lot in life. Whether they’re locked up in a zoo or part of a traveling circus, some animals hit a point and decide ‘enough is enough’ and make a break for it. Now, for your amusement, here are 10 of the most famous animal breakout stories on earth:

1. Egyptian Cobra at the Bronx Zoo

A snake with deadly venom that can kill a person within 15 minutes of a bite – it was this particular breed of snake that escaped the Bronx Zoo in New York, much to the terror of the staff. The Egyptian cobra got out of the reptile enclosure leaving everyone in the area on guard and just waiting for the slithering fiend to get hungry and make itself known. Luckily, it had a Twitter account…

2. Bruno the Orangutan

Bruno was an orangutan at the Los Angeles Zoo. He was 29 years old and apparently didn’t feel like staying in his enclosure anymore. He broke through the netting and prompted an evacuation of the entire area as the staff searched for him on zoo grounds.

3. Tatiana the Siberian Tiger

Tatiana was a Siberian tiger at the San Francisco Zoo. She got out of her enclosure somehow. People still don’t know how she managed it. However, once she got out, she mauled two men. It’s unclear as to whether or not these men were taunting her, but it’s a tragedy in any case.

4. Nine Monkeys Flee the Lab

Animal testing labs are known for their tight security, but that didn’t stop nine monkeys that slipped out of the lab at Oregon Health & Sciences University. It took hours to track them down.

5. Susie and Bunny – The Circus Elephants

Two Asian elephants by the names of Susie and Bunny got out of their enclosure while the Garden Bros Circus was on a rest stop somewhere in Toronto, Canada. The two elephants roamed free for a few hours, leaving the third elephant in the act back in the pen asleep. They were captured and returned to the circus without incident.

6. Ichiro the Chimpanzee

Ichiro the chimp was advanced in age when he slipped out of a door that had been left open at the Ishikawa Zoo in Japan. He was caught and placed back in his enclosure, but before being captured, he grabbed a tranquilizer gun out of a guard’s hand!

7. Molly the Cow

Molly has had quite a life. The cow managed to escape a slaughterhouse in Queens, New York, wander along a highway and dodge cars that passed by for a mile before it was captured over an hour later. After all she’d been through, Molly was given over to animal control by the slaughterhouse and she now resides in an animal sanctuary.

8. Karta the Orangutan

Yet another orangutan made it onto our list. Karta was a 27-year old female orangutan at the Adelaide Zoo in Australia. She placed a stick in the wires of the electric fence, stacked up twigs and debris and climbed over the glass and concrete wall to escape. Karta sat perched on the fence for over 30 minutes then climbed back inside on her own.

9. Chuva the Macaw

Chuva was a blue and gold macaw at the Greater Vancouver Zoo. She apparently got tired of her situation and escaped the confines of the zoo by taking advantage of her “out of cage” time in the outdoor parrot gardens. Even though her wings were clipped, she got out of the gardens and into the parking lot, snuck inside an RV and made it 20 miles away before she was found.

10. Juan the Bear

Juan was a bear living in the Berlin Zoo. He was apparently tired of the quiet life and escaped. However, how he did it is what’s impressive. To get past the moat that surrounded his enclosure, Juan hopped on a decorative log in the moat and used it as a raft to paddle to the other side. No one was hurt and Juan was returned to his enclosure without incident.

Magicopolis by Gentleman of Sophistication and Refinement

These days, the idea of a magic show has turned into less illusion and more of a spectacle. I guess you could call it delusion. What happens behind the pyrotechnics is hidden from your eyes, but what about the magic that happens right in front of you? If you’ve ever wondered what ever happened to the good old magic show, here are some fun options for you.

Magicopolis

Arguably the most famous magic show in the Los Angeles Area, Magicopolis turns the table on the typical rabbit-in-the-hat trick. It’s funny and a little kooky, but it will definitely leave you wondering, “How did they do that?” Popular with tourists, locals, and celebrities, the Magicopolis illusionists make people dissolve into midair and read your mind. The show and the theater are designed for adults and children alike, so the entire family can enjoy the entertainment.

Le Grand David and His Spectacular Magic Company

Holding a Guinness World Record for the longest running stage magic show in the world, this show is in Beverly, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston. The show is engaging and has a vintage feel—it evokes the days of the cabaret. Their website might still look like it’s from the dark ages, but the stars, Marco the Magi and Le Grand David, have been managing the show since the late ‘70s, and they still blend history with modernity and amusement.

Kozak the Magician

If you want to sit quietly in your seat while the performers on the stage entertain you, this might not be the show for you. This family-friendly show in Atlantic City brings the audience into the illusion. Kozak will make you laugh while he mysteriously diverts your attention from his sleight of hand … or did he really make that person disappear?

Steve Cohen’s Chamber Magic

Known as “The Millionaires’ Magician,” Steve Cohen plays mind tricks and subtle illusions in an intimate suite in New York’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel. An entertainer for the rich and famous, Cohen has made a name for himself entertaining the likes of the Queen of Morocco and Martha Stewart. In this cozy and personal setting, Cohen will truly make you second-guess what you see. An adults-only magic show, it’s a unique way to entertain business guests or hold a sophisticated party.

Harry Houdini Tour & Magic Show
Held in a 150-year-old house on one of the oldest streets in Scranton, Pennsylvania, this show has been named one of the top magic shows in the world by the Travel Channel. Harry Houdini himself did many of his mind-boggling stunts in this antique refurbished home. Children will love the live animals that are part of the magic show—doves and poodles are into magic too, you know— and adults will appreciate the history behind the performance. The show includes a tour of the home, and the earlier you arrive, the more magic you will encounter.

Rick Wilcox Magic & Comedy Show

These family magicians flawlessly execute an enthralling show in Wisconsin. They’ll give you levitation, cutting a lady in half, and everything in between. A fun place to bring the kids, the humor is friendly and the magic is clean. The act changes seasonally, so returning guests won’t have to see the same performance twice.

Vegas isn’t the only place with drama and fanfare. Even without strobe lights, firework displays, or trampolines, magic shows have been entertaining the public for decades. Audiences are still awestruck, and gravity is still defied, even without the use of special equipment and technology. Sometimes a dramatic “abracadabra” and a wave of the magic wand are all it takes to entertain the family.

If you have a British friend or recently took a trip to the U.K., you’ve probably heard phrases that sounded strange and left you thinking, “Huh?” There are many differences between the way that Americans and the British speak English, and in this article, you’ll learn some common phrases used by the Brits in everyday conversation.

Mug: The word that we use to describe a large cup we drink coffee from is used in the UK to talk about someone who’s easily fooled. You might say, “I can’t believe the mug fell for that scam!” Politicians, for some reason, seem to be especially attracted to mugs.
Knackered: This is a word that describes someone who is out of energy or tired. A person who just came back from a jog might say, “I’m feeling knackered after that run.”
Full of beans: Some Americans might hear this and think that it refers to someone who is not sincere or not truthful. The British use this phrase to describe a person who is full of energy. If you’re told that you’re full of beans, don’t be offended. You may just want to lay off the caffeine.
Sweet Fanny Adams: You know what this one means, right? No? Well, it’s a phrase used in the UK that means “nothing.” You might also hear it used as “sweet FA”. It can also be used to describe something as being worthless.
Having a benny: If you grew up in the 70’s, you know that “bennys” were Benzedrine, aka “uppers.” In the UK, this phrase is used for someone throwing a fit or temper-tantrum. You might say, “He’s having a benny because he didn’t get what he wanted for Christmas.” Apparently this phrase is not related to Benny Hill, the great English comedian, but I digress.
Up the duff: When you say that a woman is up the duff, you’re saying that she’s pregnant. Be careful with this phrase, however, as it usually implies that it was an unplanned pregnancy. Some women may find it offensive, so keep your mouth shut to avoid being slapped.
Apples and pears: This is a British phrase that means “stairs”. Apparently this comes from Cockney rhyming slang (apples and pears rhymes with stairs). It seems like it would be easier to just say stairs, but I guess I would say that because I’m not British.
Noughts and crosses: This is the name given to the game that Americans refer to as “tic-tac-toe.” Let’s say that you’re on vacation in the U.K. and someone asks you to play noughts and crosses with them. Now that you know the definition, you won’t say something stupid like, “I don’t know, sounds a bit S&M doesn’t it?”
Pear shaped: No, the British are not using this phrase to describe a women’s figure. It’s used to say that something went terribly wrong or is a disaster. You could say, “My blind date was awful. I mistakenly talked about my ex-wife’s beautiful eyes and things got pear shaped.”
Sixes and sevens: This phrase basically means that things are in disorder or a mess. An example would be, “The Republicans are at sixes and sevens with the Democrats.”

These are only a few of the British phrases that leave Americans with their mouths open and scratching their heads. It’s always a good thing to ask what a phrase means before jumping to conclusions; so many times it has absolutely nothing to do with what you thought.

Moving can be one of the most frustrating and stressful things you ever have to do. Compiling the entire contents of your house—your life—into small cardboard boxes can be daunting, to say the least. Use these packing tips for an enjoyable move!

Pack your personal stuff first

You don’t want to complete the packing process only to realize that you packed all your underwear, your toothbrush, and other necessities that you’ll want to keep handy for the trip. Think about how long the trip will take and the length of time it will take you to unpack. Pack an extra suitcase for that time period to ensure that on moving day you’re not reopening boxes looking for the shoes you packed because you forgot to leave out a spare pair. After that, pack the rest into clearly marked boxes.

Prioritize your boxes

Pack some boxes with items you use often or those that you’ll want to use soon after you arrive. Label these with a big “1” on the side so you can find them easily. In these moving boxes, include items like towels, a set of sheets and pillows, some pots, pans, plates, and silverware, and the clock that usually sits on your nightstand. Having these things available when you first move in will make your empty house seem more like home, and you won’t have to sleep in a sleeping bag after eating pizza off napkins on your living room floor.

Label everything

Even though you try to keep things organized, a random bathroom item always ends up in the moving boxes with kitchen gear. In addition to the obvious packing supplies, keep a permanent marker handy as you’re packing boxes and make a list of everything you put in the box. Try to keep items from the same rooms together, and label each box with the name of the room in which it belongs. Don’t forget to put your name, address and phone number inside the top of the box (just in case it gets lost or broken open).

Declutter

Keep in mind that the more you put in the boxes, the more you’ll have to take out. Take this opportunity to get rid of all that extra junk you never use. Trash it, pack it or put a price tag on it and store those items in a separate room. When finished you should have a nice little garage sale all ready to go. Items gently used, and washed, can be donated to the homeless or a local charity.

Use appropriately sized boxes

Even though it seems like you’ll have extra work to do when you see dozens of small boxes stacked together compared with fewer larger boxes, packing items in small boxes will make your life easier. It’s difficult to carry larger boxes, and they can get heavy and unwieldy.

There are companies online that will ship you sets of moving boxes, complete with packing materials, for inexpensive prices; this way they show up at your door and you don’t have to waste precious time hunting them down and dragging them home. Don’t forget to pack your dresser drawers, hampers (wrap with plastic wrap and secure), extra suitcases and decorative trunks; don’t pay for wasted space on the truck!

Alice McCoy’s father was a long-haul trucker and ever since childhood she’s been fascinated with that life. Although she stays at home with her kids now, she is still involved by keeping an eye out for trucking jobs and writes about topics like trucking insurance – she says she knows that sounds boring but swears it isn’t as bad as it sounds!

Planning and executing a move is a stressful undertaking. The operation can prove costly, time-consuming, disorienting, and emotional. After signing on the dotted line, most people don’t know where to start. A long distance move just makes everything harder because there is no running back and forth for forgotten valuables. Everything has to be packed up and sent in one trip; there’s no turning back. When dealing with so many details, transporting your car becomes an added headache. Driving to your new home becomes an exhausting journey, especially when traveling with children. A great alternative is to send the car separately, and travel at your own convenience. There are some basic tips and tricks that will make the auto transport process a lot less difficult.

Book in Advance

In order to get the best price, it is advisable to start doing your homework early, so that you can compare price quotes from different companies. It is important to inform the company about the size of your car, the make and model, and the length of your destination, as these factors will affect auto transport pricing. It is a good idea to shop around, but remember that after deciding on a company, if you call back a while later that price may have changed incrementally. This is because auto transport pricing takes into account some variable factors, such as gas and the weather, which will fluctuate over time.
If you plan on doing your research online, make sure to check the company’s references and reputation so as to ensure that your car, one of your most prized possessions, will be in good hands.

The Extras

Standard auto transport consists of transporting your car, but different companies will offer different extra options for your convenience.

Many companies offer open or enclosed car transport. Remember that with an open truck, your car will be exposed to the elements just as if it were being driven on the road. However, enclosed car shipping is usually more costly. If you have an expensive new car, a leased car which you are afraid of damaging, a collection car, or the like, you should consider enclosed auto transport. With enclosed transport, the car is transported in a fully enclosed trailer.

Another option offered is door to door transport. Many companies request that you drop your car off at a central terminal, and pick it up from a terminal near your destination, otherwise known as terminal to terminal auto transport. If you require door to door auto transport, make sure to request it. By ‘door to door’ companies mean that the driver will come as close as physically possible to your door. If there are narrow or winding streets, low hanging wires or trees, or other obstacles, the truck will not be able to come directly to your house. Instead, you should arrange to meet as close as possible to central roadways, and in an area with a large parking lot, where there will be room to load the vehicle onto the rig.

Preparation

Once you have scheduled auto transport, there are some preparations that must be made to ensure that your car is ready for the trip. First, don’t plan on sending your car chock full of boxes. Your car must be empty of personal belongings. In fact, you must remove anything belonging to you, including a GPS, car phone, personal documents, etc. Auto transporters carry insurance that covers only the car itself, and not anything inside of it. They hold no responsibility for any belongings left in the car. Also, if stopped, you can incur a fine.

Your car should be taken for a tune-up to ensure that everything is in working order. Any fluids and the gas should be filled about a quarter of the tank. This ensures that there is enough to get the car on and off the truck, but not too much that the car will be overweight. Any special instructions for driving the car on or off the rig should be written down and given to the driver. Also, wash the outside of the car well, and take pictures of it. This will keep you covered in case of any damage to the car during the trip. The driver will also take pictures of the car when he comes to pick it up, and make note of any scratches, dents, etc.

Once you’ve done your homework and the necessary preparations, you’re done. You can let someone else drive your car across the country, or ship it overseas, while you travel in style.

Skiing is generally an amazing experience, especially for those that enjoy an adrenaline fuelled holiday adventure! This hobby has spread far and wide around the world, with very prominent seasons in place to take part. However although this sport has become popular world wide, there is always something that every skier fears might happen. Below is a list of some of the most daunting experiences that may befall a skier!

1.	Avalanches

Probably one of the most obvious is an avalanche, and in many cases listed here also the most deadly. These days avalanches around ski resorts are controlled, which means they are detonated at specific intervals, minimising the risk of a snow avalanche happening in season to a tiny amount. However the odds of surviving an avalanche are generally quite low, especially if you are towards the top of the slope. Fortunately these are extremely infrequent, but those skiing off-piste are most likely to be hit by an avalanching, as leaving the slope places you in the unadulterated arms of nature! People are killed every year by avalanches!

Fear Rating – 8.0 / 10

2.	Falling Over

So now we get into something a little more realistic. Falling over is every beginners fear, but it is also attributed to embarrassment. Anyone who begins skiing doesn’t want to fall over; although not the scariest it is often the most embarrassing. Falling over may damage your ego but at least it won’t damage you (too much), it depends how you fall!

Fear Rating – 5.0 / 10

3.	Getting Lost

This is something that plagues the mind of skiers that travel off-piste regularly. The biggest problem with getting lost off-piste is finding your way back to your original slope, and this cdan be tricky as the sun starts to set. Many ski resorts are situated within very secluded places, without much in terms of surrounding human life. There have been a number of accounts of people getting lost, one of the most notable was a couple getting lost at the Kicking Horse resort in the USA. Only one of them was able to make it back, he was treated for exposure and severe frost bite. Wolves in some locations can also become a big problem!

Fear Rating – 6.0 / 10

4.	Hitting a Tree

One of the most common fears and one that everyone will admit too is hitting a tree. Generally speaking this is the next biggest fear after falling over. Hitting a tree is not only demoralising, but can be extremely painful. On a more morbid note people, you can actually die if you hit a tree at excessive speed, and generally speaking in skiing, it can be quite difficult to stop! It is no surprise that this can be most common when skiing through tree lines and being up against moguls (bumps and ramps in the snow) that can force you in random directions!

Fear Rating – 7.0 /10

5.	Being Caught in a Whiteout

Finally, and probably the scariest of the lot is being caught in a white out. This can lead to all of the above but usually in a more serious fashion. Of course an Avalanche isn’t normally caused by a Whiteout, however if one is triggered, you are pretty much a gone (dismal I know). Hitting a tree and falling over will be the most common when a white out occurs, in some cases you may even barely be able to see past your own skis. Finally, a combination of being caught in a white out and getting lost is one of the scariest things that can happen, when the whiteout has subsided and you have no idea where you are, you come to the realisation you are lost. Being lost in the mountains by nothing but snow and what could now well be altered scenery, isn’t going to be a great experience.

Fear Rating – 9.0 / 10

Above are some of the scariest experiences for a skier, some others that seem to crop up (no matter how random) are things like this:

6.	Hitting someone else when skiing
7.	Going over an ice patch
8.	Losing a ski?
9.	Snowboarders…
10.	Busy Ski slopes
11.	Wolves / Bears
BONUS
12.	The Abominable Snowman

Mark C works for a French Ski resorts and Italy Ski resorts Tour Operator, bringing you information on skiing no matter how random!
