Top 10 Quirkiest Cruise Ship Features

Cruise ships are known for their competitiveness and need to trump their rivals in terms of size and features that you would never even expect to see on a huge floating island! So here is a list of the 10 quirkiest ones found on cruise ships currently out there on the open sea.

1. Merry-Go-Round

Glistening on the new Oasis of the Seas by Royal Caribbean, is a full sized operational merry-go-round with horses and carriages all ready for their riders.

2. Running Track

Now call me old-fashioned but surely a running track on a cruise ship defeats the object of going on a cruise? I.e. to relax, eat lots and get podgy? Anyhow, running tracks have now become a standard feature on a lot of cruise ships, now I wonder how weird it is running on something that is already moving across the sea…?

3. Surfing Machine

Another increasingly popular, yet kind of strange feature on many cruise ships is the surf machine. Created using a curved platform and fast moving water on top, the user is supposed to try and surf on the strange contraption, seemingly like a real surfing experience!

4. High Dive Boards

Now this one really has to be seen to be believed, with an incredibly high diving boards and smallish pools, there is a show on the Oasis of the Seas that also has water and light shows. Picture below.

5. Water Slide

Now you may think that water slides aren’t that quirky, but there is a 765 foot tube slide spanning 4 decks of a cruise ship! That is one long slide!

6. Zip Wire

Crossing a large proportion of a cruise ships atrium, this zip wire is definitely a quirky feature that you might not expect to find on a cruise ship.

7. Rock Climbing Wall

Quickly becoming another cruise ship staple, although, again a weird one, rock climbing walls vary in size and difficulty, some having up to 7 different routes, even on the recently revitalised Rhapsody by Royal Caribbean!

8. Levitating Bar

This bar is suspended in a huge atrium on the Oasis of the Seas by Royal Caribbean, OK so technically it’s not actually levitating but it’s still in the centre of one of the atrium’s.

9. Suspended Jacuzzi

You need a head for heights to even step foot in this Jacuzzi, as they extend it 12 feet over the side of the ship giving you spectacular views.

10. Cupcake Shop

There is obviously plenty of room on cruise ships for whole shops dedicated to cupcakes, including tasting and decorating sessions, this is surely one of the yummiest and quirkiest cruise ship features.
