Top 5 Photography Gadgets

With summer fully in swing, times of holiday and relaxation, I thought now would be an appropriate time to round up some of the best photography gadgets on the market today. This little list could be just the thing to do, anything from recording your holiday in glorious quality with you iPhone to capturing snorkelling sessions!

1. Acadalus CPS-H1 Self Levelling Tripod Head
Acadulus self level head
We start, as we should really, with an excellent but quite stunningly limited product. Do you have problems making your camera level when shooting with a tripod? Many do, and the simple answer is to get a spirit level that fits into the hot shoe mount. Alternatively, you could spend $5,000 on the Acadalus CPS-H1 self levelling camera head. Yes, five thousand dollars. The Acadalus does, however, contain a digital inclinometer that can be minutely adjusted with the slightest touch of a button, and turning motors to produce huge panoramas. It is a very powerful tool for producing landscape and architectural photography. Unfortunately, at the combined price of a top end DSLR and tripod, it does seem a little extravagant!

2. Nikon Coolpix S1000pj

Nikon coolpix
The first mini projector inside a camera, need I say more? I will though, as well as the standard 12.1 megapixel camera, 2.7 inch ultra bright LCD screen, 5x optical zoom lens and HD 1280 x 780 video recording, Nikon have somehow shoehorned an LED mini projector in as well. All the user needs is a flat surface and they can project their images unto 40 inches wide, with the addition of music and transitions (starwipe!). With a list price of £200+, this is an expensive toy, but personally one I cant wait to try!

4. Owle Bubo
Owle bubo
This interesting piece of kit, started back in 2008, is probably the zenith of iPhone gadgets. It produces incredibly high quality audio and video from your iPhone, with the aid of it’s ‘cradle’, which the phone sits within. Some of the features it boasts are interchangeable lenses (thread mount), a high quality external microphone, aluminium composite body and ‘open source’ standard size female mounting points, into which you can screw many accessories.

The difference in video between the iPhone on its own and with the Bubo is quite marked. It shows much better clarity, white balance and brightness stability, supposedly due to the lens used. At only $120 as well, this very funky piece of kit could be the next big thing?

5. Sony Sweep Panorama

Ok, so this isn’t technically ONE gadget, but a new feature on the Sony HX1, TX1 and WX1 models. It’s basically an in camera auto-stitch program that takes multiple exposures (upto 10fps) and combines them for you, hey presto. With a field of view of up to 224 degrees and a maximum picture size of 7152 x 1080 pixels, you can make HUGE panoramas. Tests show remarkably good results from these ‘sweep’ panoramas, with little stretching or blurring. With a price of around £200, if you are thinking of getting a new digital camera, why not look at one with this fantastic little feature?
