Top 6 Car Action Films

In recent years there have been a whole host of movies which have featured some amazing car scenes. Finding and rating the top 6 car related flicks have been no easy task and so I have rated them by the IMDB’s[1] public rating. For anyone who loves a good car chase or the thrill of a chase between competing fractions, this list is for you, enjoy!

1. Bullitt

Year: 1968

IMDB Rating: 7.5

Frank Bullitt a Police officer becomes determined to find a criminal gang boss who killed a witness who was placed under the polices witness protection program. The car chase through the streets of San Francisco featuring the Ford Mustang 390GT is widely considered one of the most influential car chases in filming history, the car involved was the .

2. The Italian Job

Year: 1969

IMDB Rating: 7.3

This is the original Italian job which has in recent years been remade; the story line follows Michael Cain who takes over a job for a friend to steal a vault full of gold, from under the noses of the authorities and criminals. The film features classic minis  from the 1960′s in some amazing chase footage through a city, even pedestrianized areas.

3. Death Proof

Year: 2007

IMDB Rating: 7.2

Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, this movie follows three female friends celebrating one of the member’s birthdays; the plot gets one of the leading characters involved with a man who takes them for a ride in a black 1970′s Chevy Nova at extreme speeds. This film is not suitable for children.

4. Quantum of Solace

Year: 2008

IMDB Rating: 6.8

Secret agent James Bond is set to stop and cooperation who develop green technology from taking control of the countries resources. As with all Bond films, there is a host of fantastic car chases featuring the traditional gadget loaded Bond motors from Aston Martin, the infamous DBS which made its debut on the film. The Aston Martin DBS was part of real stunts, with no CGI which is both fantastic and a shame at the same time.

5. The Transporter 2, 2002

Year: 2002

IMDB Rating: 6.6

Frank Martin moves to Miami and becomes a  driver for a well of family and drives the families child to school each day. One day he is ambushed by a group of criminals disguised as criminals. Frank escapes with child and some fantastic car chase and action scenes follow. The car featured on this film is the Audi A8 W12. If you have seen any of the other Transporter films which feature such cars as the BMW 3 series and Audis you will know what to expect from The Transporter 2.

6. Gone in 60 Seconds

Year: 2010

IMDB Rating: 6.0

Nicolas Cage plays a retired car thief, has to steal in one night fifty vehicles in order to save the life of his brother. All of the vehicles he must steal are super cars including Aston Martin DB7, Bentley Continental, Cadillac’s, Chevrolet’s, Ferraris amongst many others. The sotry line follows some great chases and near misses as the crew and Cage try not to damage the vehicles.
