Top 8 Takeout Foods To Avoid

Burger's Priest: Tower of BabelIn this day and age, we’re all aware that eating takeout or fast food should be avoided when at all possible. Convenience foods are often laden with fat and salt, not to mention an incredible amount of calories. Even though we know that we should make better choices, sometimes grabbing a quick bite at the corner drive-thru is the only option we have.

When eating convenience foods is absolutely unavoidable, there are some menu items that should never be included with your order. Whether it’s due to a high caloric content or enough salt to pickle your insides, these foods are some of the worst in the nation:

1. McDonald’s Triple Thick Chocolate Shake – Large

Packed with an astounding 1160 calories, 168 grams of sugar and 27 grams of fat, this milkshake could be the reason you pack on a couple pounds. In fact, two Quarter Pounders would be a better substitute! If you’ve got to have something cold and creamy, opt for a small vanilla cone or even a yogurt parfait. Either will save you over 1,000 calories!

2. Arby’s Roast Beef and Swiss Market Fresh Sandwich

Covered with Italian sub sauce, mayo and Swiss cheese, this sandwich is comprised of an unhealthy 810 calories and 1780 mg of sodium. The fat content is also astronomical at 42 grams in this unhealthy sandwich! Don’t let the “fresh” in the name full you: this sandwich is anything but. Opt instead for the Super Roast Beef to save close to 400 calories and 700 mg of sodium.

Who among us hasn’t made a run for the border and hogged down one of these gastro-bombs? With 680 calories, 2120 mg of sodium and 30 grams of fat, there are dozens of healthier choices to be made at Taco Bell. If you’re in the mood for some quick Mexican food, choosing anything off of the fresco menu will save you hundreds of calories and dozens of fat grams.

4. Jack in the Box Bacon Cheddar Potato Wedges

Sometimes a burger just isn’t enough! How many times have you been tempted by one of those calorie-packed sides you see advertised so brightly on the menu board? These wedges have a whopping 720 calories, 1,360 mg of sodium and 48 grams of fat. You’d be better off to order the mozzarella sticks! Not only will you save almost 500 calories, but you’ll save 1,000 mg of sodium and over 30 grams of fat!

5. Chik-fil-A Chick-n-Strips Salad with Buttermilk Dressing

Don’t be fooled into thinking that a salad is always a healthy option at the drive-thru. This salad has 800 calories, 1745 mg of sodium and 60 grams of fat. In fact, not only is this the worst salad option at Chik-fil-A, it tops the worst drive-thru salad list of all fast food chains! Choose the Chik-fil-A Southwest Chargrilled Salad with Fat-Free Honey Mustard Dressing instead. You’ll save over 400 calories, 50 grams of fat and 500 mg of sodium.

6. Burger King BIG FISH Sandwich with Tartar Sauce

Just because it’s fish doesn’t mean it’s healthy! Once you’ve breaded and deep-fried fish, you’ve negated any nutritional value it once had! This sandwich has 640 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1540 mg of sodium! Even if you feel like fish, avoid it! Choose a Whopper Jr. instead and cut your calories, fat and sodium by almost half.

7. Dairy Queen Strawberry CheeseQuake Blizzard – Large

Packing close to 1,000 calories, 32 grams of fat and 114 grams of sugar, this dessert is a heart attack in a cup. For a sweet treat, choose to have a small chocolate sundae. You’ll save 700 calories, over 30 grams of fat and cut your sugar intake by more than half!
